asked the Minister of Defence how many Regular Service men on joining the Colours in the years 1949, 1950 and 1951 have given their previous civilian employment as agriculture.

This information could only be obtained by examining about 150,000 individual record cards. I do not feel that such a task could be justified at a time when we are concentrating our Service man-power on essential employment.
