HC Deb 04 February 1952 vol 495 cc99-100W
Mr. Harold Davies

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what action has been taken to re-house the 2,000 Malayan Chinese squatters in the Payar Lebar district, Singapore, who were to be removed to make way for a jet-bomber base.

Mr. Lyttelton

I assume that the hon. Member is referring to the plans which are being made for the construction of a new civil airport at Paya Lebar. The Singapore Government are considering the resettlement of the present occupants of the airport site and I can assure the hon. Member that satisfactory arrange- ments will be made to resettle the people concerned. I am asking the Governor for a report.
