HC Deb 26 November 1951 vol 494 c106W
80. Mr. W. T. Williams

asked the Minister of Food whether his attention has been drawn to the recent Mass Observation Bulletin, an extract of which has been sent to him, regarding the shopping habits of working-class housewives in which it was found that on Fridays and Saturdays they spent three times as much money as mid-week; and if, in view of this, he will take steps to prohibit the practice of raising prices at week ends of many vegetables and fruit.

Dr. Hill

My right hon. Friend has seen this extract. He does not believe that it would be in the interests of the housewife to interfere with day to day fluctuations in fruit and vegetable prices.
