asked the Minister of Food if his attention has been called to the increases in the prices of the basic materials used in the confectionery trades during the last three weeks; and if he will control the prices of these goods.

There have been no recent increases in prices of basic materials. If the hon. Member has in mind the higher prices which I understand are being charged for such supplementary materials as sweetened fat and fondant, these have never been controlled in price and my right hon. Friend does not intend to introduce control now.
