HC Deb 22 November 1951 vol 494 c71W
85. Mr. Hastings

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the number of cases in which lions and other dangerous animals have escaped from travelling shows causing terror or injury to citizens; and whether he will introduce legislation to protect the public from this menace.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

So far as I am aware, such incidents are rare. I have no reason to think that persons who keep dangerous animals neglect their responsibilities for the protection of the public, and on the information before me, I do not think legislation is necessary.
