HC Deb 22 November 1951 vol 494 cc71-2W
88. Brigadier Medlicott

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the public anxiety over the number of convictions of parents for cruelty to their own or adopted children, he will, at an early date, set up a committee of inquiry into all aspects of the problem, including the adequacy or otherwise of the punishments inflicted upon the offenders, and the need for the co-ordination of educational, medical, social, religious and other activities aimed at raising the standards of conduct of the parents concerned.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the reply I gave on 15th November to my hon. Friend the Member for Cornwall, North (Sir H. Roper), and the hon. Members for Barking (Mr. Hastings) and Southampton, Test (Dr. King).

My hon. and gallant Friend will be aware that this subject was discussed on the Motion for the Adjournment of the House on 19th November.
