Mr. Granville

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider reducing the Purchase Tax on rush baskets, in view of the fact that the raw materials used will otherwise be wasted, and that the volume of baskets made is so small that the loss of revenue would be trivial.

The considerations mentioned by the hon. Member would not justify my proposing, in present circumstances, that rush baskets should be treated differently from the other baskets which are subject to the same rate of Purchase Tax.
