asked the Post master-General what were the estimated quantity and the cost of production of the unsold stocks of the nine issues of postage stamps which were withdrawn from sale on 2nd May; and whether these stocks are to be destroyed.

Stocks of these stamps had been run down to a bare minimum in preparation for the change, but my right hon. Friend is not yet in a position to estimate what was the quantity on hand at the change-over. Stocks of the five low denomination stamps of the old design will be pulped; the high value denominations will remain on sale until they are exhausted.
