119. Miss Wardasked the Minister of Transport on what date he was approached by the county borough of Tyne-mouth for permission to erect lights at the junction of the Coast Road and Narham Road; on what dates he had received representations from the Member; whether he is aware of the fatal accident which aroused public opinion: and when he will authorise the erection of lights in accordance with the desires of the local authority.
§ Mr. BarnesAs regards the first and third parts of the Question I would refer the hon. Member to the answers that I 239W gave her on 15th November, 1950. I have received written representations from her on the following dates: 21st July, 1950; 23rd October, 1950; 16th November, 1950; 26th November, 1950; 8th December, 1950; 19th February, 1951; 5th March, 1951; 11th March, 1951. I regret the conflict of opinion about this but on the evidence available I am inclined to think that the best solution is to improve the layout, and I hope that the local authority will co-operate to this end.
