HC Deb 19 March 1951 vol 485 c238W
118. Mr. Vosper

asked the Minister of Transport if he will make a further statement regarding the proposed new Runcorn—Widnes bridge.

Mr. Barnes

In the present situation I cannot approve the commencement of the main constructional work, but I am anxious that such protective works as may be decided to be an essential preliminary to the main scheme should be carried out as soon as possible. I understand that the consulting engineers and the Manchester Ship Canal Company have been unable to agree on the extent of the protective works and that the question is being referred to arbitration.
