HC Deb 19 March 1951 vol 485 c232W
103. Mr. Molson

asked the Minister of Food what is the subsidy per pound now being paid to meat packers in respect of meat exported to the Argentine and other foreign countries; and whether he will discontinue this earlier than 1st May.

Mr. F. Willey

It is not our policy to subsidise meat issued to manufacturers for export, and there is no subsidy on the meat now being supplied for export purposes. During the coming financial year, however, a subsidy would be involved if current prices were maintained. We have, therefore, given the manufacturers notice of an increase in prices as from 1st May which I think the trade will regard as reasonable notice. As my right hon. Friend told the hon. Member on 14th February, no meat products are being exported to Argentina.
