HC Deb 19 March 1951 vol 485 c235W
112. Mr. G. Ward

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that about 12 tons of flour were damaged by water on the Western Region of British Railways at Worcester during the week beginning 5th March; and what steps he is taking to ensure that food in transit is carefully handled to avoid waste.

Mr. F. Willey

Yes. It started raining while the men who had been transferring the flour from a railway truck to a dray were away at lunch, and they had not covered the bags. Every precaution is taken by my officers when making transport arrangements to ensure that suitable vehicles are used, having regard to the nature of the traffic, and that proper care is exercised in handling to avoid waste.
