HC Deb 26 June 1951 vol 489 c123W
90. Mr. G. Longden

asked the Minister of Local Government and Planning whether he is aware that defence rearmament work in the Watford area will be hampered by absence of houses for additional workers, while housing at Hemel Hempstead will be ready before the industries are available to absorb the labour which can be housed there; and whether he will consider varying his policy in respect to new towns and allow these houses to be used temporarily for new re-armament labour required in the Watford area.

Mr. Dalton

I have received no representations that defence work at Watford will be hampered by lack of houses. At Hemel Hempstead housing and employment in the new town are marching in step.
