HC Deb 21 June 1951 vol 489 c76W
84. Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Labour what steps are being taken to encourage employers not to fix upper age limits for vacant appointments which they seek to fill.

Mr. Lee

The policy of encouraging the employment of elderly workers and, where possible, removing age limits for engagement has been endorsed by the National Joint Advisory Council, and a specific request to employers to review their practice in this respect is being widely circulated to employers organisations. In addition, it is the practice of the Ministry's local offices to bring this point to the attention of individual employers in appropriate cases.
