HC Deb 21 June 1951 vol 489 cc75-6W
82. Major Lloyd

asked the Minister of Labour what steps he is taking to encourage two-shift working in industry.

Mr. Lee

The present general labour shortage must necessarily limit the extent to which two-shift working can be introduced. Where the need arises my Department assist in the recruitment of workers for additional shifts and, in particular, encourages the working of short shifts, often in the evening, at hours which make it possible for married women to fit in some industrial employment with their domestic responsibilities.
