HC Deb 26 February 1951 vol 484 c242W
30. Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Food why, when allocations for school meals are unchanged, butchers who supply meat to the school canteens are receiving the rebate of 4s. in the £.

Mr. Webb

It would not be practicable to analyse the food office buying permits of about 45,000 butchers, so as to charge different prices for the meat issued for sale to all the different classes of consumers. All these factors are, however, taken into account in fixing the overall figure of the rebate or surcharge; and most school contracts are, moreover, competitive.
