HC Deb 04 December 1950 vol 482 c8W
77. Mr. Kerr

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will consider introducing legislation to make compulsory the placing of rear lights on the extreme right-hand edge of vehicles.

Mr. Barnes

So long as only one rear light is required, I consider that the existing regulation is preferable to the proposal contained in this question. When a suitable opportunity for legislation presents itself, I have under consideration the recommendation as to rear lights made by the Road Safety Committee—namely, that all new vehicles, except pedal cycles and solo motor cycles, should carry two rear lights and one reflector.
