§ Mr. Granvilleasked the Minister of Agriculture if he is prepared to announce a long-term price plan for wheat growing so that farmers may arrange for future production and rotation beyond the 1950 harvest.
Mr. T. WilliamsThe terms of Part I of the Agriculture Act, 1947, already ensure that farmers know the price of their main crops, including wheat, in good time to plan their next year's cropping, and I do not think more is required. For example, prices were announced in March, 1949, for wheat to be sold by farmers from the harvest of 1950. Farmers have already been assured that it is not the Government's intention to limit in the foreseeable future the amount of wheat to which the guarantee of a price and market applies: and it must be clear that the country will need all the wheat that can be grown for many years to come.
