HC Deb 21 September 1948 vol 456 c69W
97. Mr. Austin

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is satisfied with the response by the cotton spinners concerned to the provisions of the Cotton Spinning (Re-equipment Subsidy) Act; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Belcher

Up to the present 16 groups, comprising nearly 50 per cent. of the capacity of the cotton spinning industry, have been approved for the purposes of the Cotton Spinning (Re-equipment Subsidy) Act. We do not regard the response to date as unsatisfactory but we should like more groups to be formed and are hopeful that this will occur.
