HC Deb 04 November 1948 vol 457 cc112-3W
103. Sir P. Hannon

asked the President of the Board of Trade what are the specific duties performed by the adviser on commercial policy to the Board; and what are the qualifications of this officer based on training on experience in industry. and commerce.

Mr. H. Wilson

The Adviser on Commercial Policy advises the Board of Trade on matters relating to commercial treaties and agreements between the United Kingdom and other governments, and external commercial policy in general, as well as on the constitution and functions of various international organisations concerned with trade and related matters. The present holder of the office of Adviser has for many years specialised on commercial policy work and has represented the United Kingdom or been a member of United Kingdom delegations at numerous international conferences dealing with various aspects of international trade. He possesses an unrivalled knowledge and, I believe, an international reputation in this field.
