HC Deb 09 February 1948 vol 447 c3W
27. Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs why the factory and office building known as Alkett in the Spandau district of Berlin are due to be demolished; and whether he is aware that a proposal has been made to convert the building, which is in excellent state of repair, into flats for the local population.

Mr. McNeil

The building is being demolished as a war plant. It is of exceptionally heavy construction, and was specially designed for tank production. It is considered unsuitable for conversion into any form of living accommodation, and I am not aware of any proposal to convert it into flats.
