HC Deb 20 November 1947 vol 444 cc205-6W
80. Mr. Platts-Mills

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many mobile and other police officers of the Metropolitan Police were engaged in convoying motor lorries JTU 54, JMB 19 and EBU 9 on the night 15/16 November, 1947; on whose authority was this escort provided; and what was the cost to the public.

Mr. Younger

The police did not escort these lorries on the night in question, but did provide an escort in the morning over a short distance on the return journey. This was done in the normal course of police duty and there was no additional cost to public funds. The escort consisted of a chief inspector, an inspector and 10 constables.
