HC Deb 17 November 1947 vol 444 c136W
81. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs why His Majesty's Government found it necessary officially to recognise the 30th anniversary of the Russian Revolution by sending a telegram of congratulation especially at a time when anti-Anglo-American demonstrations were taking place in the streets of Moscow.

Mr. Mayhew

The sending of such messages of greeting on the anniversaries of the foundation of the Soviet State was a wartime practice which my right hon. Friend has not seen fit to discontinue.
