HC Deb 12 November 1947 vol 444 cc71-2W
43. Captain Field

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that in a recent case at Owo, Nigeria, the judge drew attention to the low wages paid to the defendant, a clerk employed by Messrs. Rowntree-Fry-Cadbury (Nigeria), Ltd.; and, in view of the present high price of cocoa, will he ensure that an equitable proportion of this is used to increase the wages of underpaid native employees of the firms engaged in the cocoa trade.

Mr. Rees-Williams

Yes. As regards the second part of the Question, I am consulting with the Government of Nigeria and will communicate further with my hon. and gallant Friend in due course.
