HC Deb 27 March 1947 vol 435 c220W
64. Mr. Pickthorn

asked the President of the Board of Trade why periodicals have recently been limited to 35 per cent. of their prewar paper consumption; and whether paper mills have been, and are being, supplied with enough coal to meet this demand.

Sir S. Cripps

Owing to the shortage of coal it has been necessary to reduce the amount of paper to be licensed for periodicals. In many cases even the reduced amount of paper may not be available and the publishers have been warned of this.
