HC Deb 27 March 1947 vol 435 cc228-9W
96. Mr. Nicholson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether Dorothy Grange has yet been removed from St. Helena's Home, Ealing.

Mr. Ede

Yes, Sir.

97. Mr. Nicholson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he proposes to take steps to amend the Children's Act, 1933, so as to prevent children in need of care and protection being sent to remand homes to which children found guilty of offences are committed.

Mr. Ede

When children of different ages and character are in the same remand home specially careful arrangements are required to prevent contamination; and it is also desirable that, whenever practicable, use should be made of more than One remand home for classification purposes; but the method of classification proposed by the hon. Member would not be satisfactory, because some of the children and young persons most likely to contaminate others are found amongst those brought before the juvenile court as in need of care and protection.
