HC Deb 27 March 1947 vol 435 cc213-4W
28. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Minister of Education the number of classes, respectively, with over 40 and over 50 on roll in the Cardiff schools; and how many emergency trained teachers have been appointed by the Cardiff education authority.

Mr. Tomlinson

I understand that the number of classes with over 40 on the roll is 121 and with over 50 is 13, and that the number of emergency trained teachers appointed is 12.

Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Minister of Education how many extra teachers will be required in Cardiff; and how many additional classrooms will be required when the school-leaving age is raised to 15 years.

Mr. Tomlinson

I understand that 47 additional teachers will be required in Cardiff when the school leaving age is raised to 15. The number of temporary hut classrooms needed is 31: other additional accommodation will be provided by restoration of war damage and erection of schools for housing estates.
