HC Deb 27 March 1947 vol 435 c211W
2. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Minister of Health whether provision will be made under his new health scheme for special hostels to cater for old age pensioners who are bedridden.

Mr. J. Edwards

The care of all the aged who are sick will be a matter for the new health service. The care of those who need care but are not sick will be dealt with in further legislation.

Mr. Messer

asked the Minister of Health it he proposes to take any action to investigate the administration of parochial charities providing almshouses and other welfare services for the aged.

Mr. J. Edwards

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given today to a question on this subject by the hon. Member for Aylesbury (Sir S. Reed).

Mr. Messer

asked the Minister of Health if he has considered the Rowntree Report on the welfare of old people; and if any action is contemplated to implement the findings of that Committee.

Mr. J. Edwards

My right hon. Friend is considering the recommendations in the report in connection with the proposed National Assistance Bill.
