HC Deb 24 February 1947 vol 433 cc243-4W
98. Mr. Murray

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware of, the difficult position arising in the County of Durham regarding the purchase of points goods: that shopkeepers in these mining areas are unable to purchase these necessary goods through depointing by his Department and that the public, and miners in particular, are penalised by these shortages; and what does he propose to do to meet this situation regarding tinned goods.

Dr. Summerskill

My information is that, with the exception at present of isolated areas, consumers in the county of Durham are able to purchase points foods freely and that traders in the area have adequate stocks of points foods. In the event of traders suffering through down pointing, there is a procedure by which they can recoup their losses.
