HC Deb 24 February 1947 vol 433 c241W
85. Mr. Teeling

asked the Minister of Food why he is giving extra milk to catering establishments throughout Sussex; whether he is aware that some of these establishments do not want to take delivery of this; and whether he will arrange for this extra ration to be shared out amongst the retail public, many of whom are getting too little milk.

Dr. Summerskill

The milk allowance to catering establishments was not increased when the domestic allowance was raised on 22nd December last, though I am glad to say that the supply position now permits us to make the normal increase to bring them into line with the domestic consumer. Caterers are not compelled to buy more milk than they need and milk retailers may distribute among their domestic customers any surplus they have within their total milk authorisation.
