HC Deb 24 February 1947 vol 433 c240W
81. Mr. Swingler

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps have been taken by the British representatives to expedite the work of the Military Staff Committee of U.N.O.; on how many occasions the committee has met during the past 12 months; and what progress he has to report.

Mr. Mayhew

The United Kingdom Representatives on the Military Staff Committee have throughout played a leading part in trying to expedite the work of the committee, and His Majesty's Government much regret the lack of progress made by the committee so far. The main committee has met 28 times in the last 12 months. There have also been numerous meetings of sub-committees. The Security Council have called upon the Military Staff Committee to make a report not later than 30th April on the basic principles which should govern the organisation of the United Nations force.
