HC Deb 24 February 1947 vol 433 c240W
72. Colonel Gomme-Duncan

asked the Minister of Works how many buildings in London, held by his Department on requisition, are at present empty; for whom they are being retained; and what is the annual cost to the taxpayer.

Mr. Key

The number of requisitioned buildings at present empty is 270 of which 19 are being surrendered. These buildings are required to meet demands made upon my Department, mainly for office and hostel accommodation and are in various stages of allocation and adaptation for this purpose. The compensation rent is approximately £130,000 per annum.
