HC Deb 20 February 1947 vol 433 c211W
Mrs. Ayrton Gould

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he is aware that a number of West End stores and other shops are contravening his orders and using electric light during the forbidden hours and if he will take immediate measures to stop it; and if he will take steps to prevent electricity being used for display purposes while there is a shortage of fuel even when the present emergency is over.

Mr. Shinwell

All practicable steps are being taken to secure observance of the restrictions applying to such premises, and in general there has been willing cooperation. I am aware that it is not complete yet, and if necessary I shall use my statutory powers. With regard to the second part of the Question, it is already illegal to use fuel for advertisement display purposes.
