HC Deb 17 February 1947 vol 433 cc125-6W
92. Mr. Law

asked the Minister of Works what quantities of coal and coke, respectively, have been delivered in the last three months to the houses in Onslow Gardens at present occupied by his Department and by the Ministry of Health; what amount of coal and coke would have been available for these houses if they had been in the occupation of private householders; and what steps are taken to ensure that there is no waste of fuel, whether in the form of half-burnt coke thrown out as cinders or otherwise.

Mr. Key

During the three months to the 31st January 82 tons of coal and 28 tons of coke were supplied to the 25 houses in Onslow Gardens occupied by M.O.W. and Ministry of Health staff. The amount of coal and coke, if any, above the per- mitted ration which would be made available to these houses if they had been in the occupation of private householders would be a matter for the local fuel overseer. The houses are, of course, much more fully occupied than they would normally be if they were used as private residences. Instructions have been given to all Departments to exercise the greatest possible economy in the use of fuel and periodical inspections are made by my technical officers.
