§ 96. Mr. Sorensenasked the Under-Secretary of State for Burma whether he will make a further statement respecting the political situation in Burma.
§ Mr. A. HendersonThe conclusions reached in the recent conversations between His Majesty's Government and the delegation from the Executive Council of the Governor of Burma were accepted by the Executive Council on 5th February, after having been previously accepted by the Working Committee of the A.F.P.F.L. The Supreme Council of the A.F.P.F.L. has been meeting this weekend to consider them. Thakin Ba Sein has tendered his resignation from the Executive Council and I have seen a Press report that U Saw has done likewise.
At the Panglong Conference representatives of the Frontier Peoples and of the Executive Council concluded an agreement on 12th February, the text of which is given below. This agreement is clearly of great significance for the future of the Frontier areas and I hope shortly to be in a position to make a statement in regard to it, after the recommendations of the Governor have been received.
