HC Deb 10 February 1947 vol 433 c10W
75. Mr. Astor

asked the Minister of Transport how many ships were wrecked on the Goodwin Sands during the last 18 months; and whether all foreign ships involved carried a British pilot.

Mr. Barnes

25 ships, of which three were British, stranded on the Goodwins between 1st June, 1945, and 31st December, 1946. Four of these became constructive total losses. In three other cases the stranding was of a serious character, but the ships were refloated. In the remaining 16 cases the strandings were of a minor character. In only one case was a British pilot aboard.
