HC Deb 05 February 1947 vol 432 c346W
8. Mr. Janner

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation what plans exist to improve during 1947 the standardisation of scientific devices at British and continental aerodromes, and the evolution of an organisation by which aircraft unable to land at one aerodrome by reason of the weather can be directed without delay to the nearest aerodrome where conditions for landing are satisfactory.

Mr. Lindgren

The standardisation of scientific devices is one of the tasks of the Provisional International Civil Aviation Organisation and a number of interim programmes have been drawn up at regional conferences of the organisation, including the European region. My noble Friend is pressing forward with their implementation in negotiation with the countries concerned. Regional conferences of the Provisional International Civil Aviation Organisation have also undertaken the designation of aerodromes for the use of international air services as alternates in bad weather or other emergency. The extension of the facilities is proceeding.
