HC Deb 05 February 1947 vol 432 cc345-6W
32. Mr. Mikardo

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation whether he is now prepared to publish the Report of the Pakenham Committee on the suitability of various sites for the establishment of a marine airport.

Mr. Lindgren

Yes, Sir, but I should make it clear that the Pakenham Committee considered the problem solely from the standpoint of civil aviation.

33. Mr. Mikardo

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation his estimate of the approximate overall cost of the establishment of a marine airport at Cliffe, compared with his estimate for the establishment of equivalent facilities at Langstone Harbour, Portsmouth.

Mr. Lindgren

I regret I am unable at this stage to give figures. As I informed my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for North Portsmouth (Major Bruce) on 29th January, my noble Friend has directed that detailed examination shall proceed of the Cliffe site so as to determine the physical and financial implications of its possible development. The Pakenham Committee, in the absence of precise figures, based on the necessary detailed physical survey, concluded that the financial advantage was in favour of Langstone.
