HC Deb 03 February 1947 vol 432 c276W
Lieut.-Colonel Corbett

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many British troops were held in custody by the Yugoslav authorities at the end of the year; how long these men have been in custody; and when are they to be released.

Mr. Mayhew

Six British soldiers were held in custody by the Yugoslav authorities at the end of 1946. All had been detained since entering Yugoslavia on various dates between 14th August and 11th September, 1946. Five of them were released on 10th January. The sixth, Private Parker, 8th Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, is still detained. Representations are being made to the Yugoslav Government for his release.
