HC Deb 17 April 1947 vol 436 cc40-1W
78. Mr. Swingler

asked the Minister of Education how many residential and nonresidential nursery schools of all types were in existence on 1st January, 1947, in Great Britain; and how many he estimates will be in operation on 1st January, 1948.

Mr. Tomlinson

The nursery school returns for January, 1947, are not yet quite complete, but those so far received show about 370 nursery schools of all types in England and Wales. Of these, none is recognised as a residential nursery school, but the figure includes a few residential homes in which the educational side has been recognised as a day nursery school. It is not possible yet to give an estimate for January, 1948.
