HC Deb 02 April 1947 vol 435 c309W
56. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware of the problems facing Scottish bee keepers as a result of the extreme winter weather; and if, in the circumstances and in order to preserve supplies of honey, he will consider granting bee keepers an extra 5 lb. of sugar per hive.

Dr. Summerskill

A special issue of 5 lb. of sugar per colony will be made to beekeepers to help them through the present difficult weather if they apply to their local food offices before the end of this month. I should be grateful if they would not apply before Easter, as it will take a day or two for detailed instructions to reach food offices.
