HC Deb 02 April 1947 vol 435 c309W
57. Mr. Skinnard

asked the Minister of Food whether he has completed his negotiations for the purchase of Canary bananas for shipment this year; what tonnage is involved; and what is the price to be paid either free on board, or cost, insurance and freight.

Dr. Summerskill

Yes, Sir. A contract has been made for the purchase of a minimum of 24,000 and a maximum of 30,000 metric tons of bananas from the Canary Islands for shipment this year. It would not be in the public interest to announce the price paid for particular purchases.
