76. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many schoolchildren there are in the city of Aberdeen; how many of these go to primary and secondary schools, respectively; and how many schools and of what kinds are available for the children in that city.

During the year ended 31st July, 1945, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 27,100 children on the registers of grant-earning day schools in the city of Aberdeen as follows:

Nursery 150
Primary 17,790
Secondary 8,830
Special schools for defective children 330
27,100

In addition 1,030 children attended private schools not in receipt of grant. At that date education was provided at 2 nursery, 24 primary, 14 secondary, 2 special and 5 private schools.
