HC Deb 21 October 1946 vol 427 c280W
41. Mr. Erroll

asked the Minister of Supply what steps he has taken to bring to the notice of industrialists the redundant manufacturing capacity at present available in Royal Ordnance factories; on what terms manufacturers may make use of this capacity; and whether he will publish an up-to-date list of all Royal Ordnance factories, with details of their redundant capacity, for which manufacturers may apply.

Mr. Wilmot

The capacity of the Royal Ordnance factories for civil production has been brought to the notice of the appropriate trade organisations, where extra capacity is known to be required. The normal procedure for placing civil work is by tender and contract. A considerable proportion of the available capacity is already employed, and, in view of the necessity for allocating the work centrally, it would not help to publish details of capacity factory by factory.
