HC Deb 06 November 1946 vol 428 cc254-5W
86. Sir J. Mellor

asked the Minister of Food whether he has considered the terms of a resolution of the Birmingham and Warwickshire Wheat Committee, forecasting that large quantities of unmillable wheat, now being certified, would deteriorate so rapidly as to become worthless unless a wider market is opened to it as food for pigs and poultry; and whether he will relax control sufficiently to prevent waste.

Mr. Strachey

Yes, Sir, but I do not accept the suggestion that unmillable wheat will be wasted. Any unmillable wheat which a farmer is not permitted to retain for feeding to his own livestock must be sold through approved buyers who can provide a ready market for it within the terms of the Feeding Stuffs (Rationing) Order.
