HC Deb 04 November 1946 vol 428 cc175-6W
102. Brigadier Rayner

asked the Minister of Transport when he anticipates being in a position to free the Teignmouth-Shaldon bridge from toll.

Mr. Barnes

This is primarily a matter for the Devon County Council who, I understand, are considering resuming negotiations for the acquisition of the bridge. I will be prepared to consider for grant any proposals which the council may put before me.

103. Brigadier Rayner

asked the Minister of Transport the policy of His Majesty's Government on the question of the freeing of toll bridges in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Barnes

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for Bucklow (Mr. Shepherd) on 8th July, of which I am sending him a copy. Since that date three more bridges have been freed from tolls.
