HC Deb 21 May 1946 vol 423 cc53-4W
108. Mr. C. S. Taylor

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power the maximum mileage taxicab drivers, outside the London area, are allowed to travel on any one journey; and what similar restrictions there are for private hire motor cars.

Mr. Shinwell

Except for the purposes described in Article 53 of the Control of Motor Fuel Order, 1944, or under the authority of a licence, petrol may not be used in a taxi-cab for a journey which is more than ten miles from the nearest point on the boundary of the area within which the vehicle is licensed to ply for hire. In the case of a private hire car, petrol may be used for a journey to any place within a radius of 20 miles of the place where the vehicle is ordinarily kept, but journeys for permitted purposes, as defined in Article 1 (b) of the Control of Motor Fuel Order, 1945, may be made within a radius of 150 miles.
