§ 122. Lieut.-Colonel Byersasked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether he is aware that the refusal to release Flight-Lieutenant R. E. M. Orledge, an education officer at Cosford, to take up the duties of headmaster and warden of the new county camp at Carey, Wareham, Dorset, has dislocated the educational arrangements which have been made, including the abandonment of a preliminary teachers' training course; 248W and whether he will make every effort to have this man released immediately so that he can take up his duties before school parties arrive at the camp on 21st May.
§ Mr. Strachey:I have gone into this case and I think the officer himself is mainly responsible for all these difficulties. He has known since the end of last year that he would not be free until next month and he actually told the Air Ministry that he did not want to be released when his turn came. He should not, therefore, have applied for this job in the first place in view of the conditions which he knew attached to it. However, he is now due to go next month and allowing for his leave, we should be able to let him take up his new job by Whitsuntide.
