HC Deb 13 May 1946 vol 422 cc155-6W
116. Sir R. Glyn

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give instructions that the National Savings posters which now disfigure many public monuments in London and elsewhere shall be removed, and that this be done before the celebrations decided on by the Government on 8th June.

Mr. Dalton:

The savings posters on the base of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square will be withdrawn before 8th June, but in view of the national importance of the Savings Campaign I cannot agree to prohibit the placing of National Savings posters on all public monuments. I am not aware of any cases of disfigure ment, but if the hon. Member will send me information of any instance he has in mind I shall be glad to look into the matter.
