asked the Assistant Postmaster-General the progress of lift insurance in sums assured and premiums paid in his Department in the years 1914 to 1924, 1934 to 1944 and in the most recent year for which completed figures are available.

Mr. Burke:

The amounts of premiums received and contracts in existence at the end of each year 1914 to 1924 and 1934 to 1945 are given in the following table. Post Office Life Insurance business was discontinued at the beginning of 1929, and the figures for the years 1934 onwards are, therefore, in respect of contracts entered into before that time.
